Mato Uljarević (1997, Podgorica) is aninterdisciplinary artist active in the fields of drawing, animation, film, andliterature. He completed specialist studies in sculpture at the Faculty of FineArts in Cetinje. For the animated film Uroš (2025), he received the “ZlatkoGrgić” Award at the World Festival of Animated Film ANIMAFEST 2025 in Zagreb.He is the director of documentary film Burna Brežina (2026), animated filmRajsferšlus (in production) and screenwritter for the animated film Enthropia(in production). He is the author of two poetry books: Basement (Suteren)(Novica Tadić Award, Institute for Cultural Development Research, Belgrade, Serbia,2022) and Fingers (Prsti) (Sumatra, Šabac, Serbia, 2024). He is the founder and director of the REANIMACIJA Festival ofEuropean Animated Film and Illustration, the first animation festival inMontenegro. He is also the initiator and editor of the Belgrade Festival of Critique.He was the initiator and manager of Nikšić’s bid for the European Capital ofCulture title. He works as the Project Manager of Nikšić 2030 – EuropeanCapital of Culture and serves as the UNESCO Creative City Network Focal Point. Heis a member of the Artistic Council of the Association of Publishers andBooksellers of Montenegro. He is also a regular collaborator and editor inseveral film production companies and publishing houses in Montenegro and theregion.

Hecompleted two studio residencies at the Terra Institute (2021/22, Kikinda,Serbia). He was a participant in the Vidovdan Art Colony in 2023 in Gračanicaand took part in the Art in the Port artist residency (2021, Porto Montenegro,Tivat, Montenegro). During 2022 and 2023, he was part of the RISE AND SHINEworkshop (CEE ANIMATION), with programs held in Zagreb, Croatia (Animafest),Ljubljana, Slovenia (Animateka), and Clermont-Ferrand, France (CF Short FilmFestival).
